I Never Saw Him Cry

Written by Ron Hampton

I never saw him cry
Yet a tear rolled down his cheek
When the pain was just too great,
Though of it he would not speak.

I never saw him cry
Though through his life the times of grief
Did come his way with heaviness
He held them as though taken by a thief..

I never saw him cry
E’en when they came with many tears
He felt their pain and sorrow
And with such resolve did persevere.

I never saw him cry
When disappointments came his way
Determination bore him up
With faith he faced each day.

I never saw him cry
When his body finally began to fail
You could see the troubled look,
But with forced smile he did prevail.

Then one day I saw him cry
When he could not comfort her in death
He knew his time had come at last
A tear of sorrow mixed with joy upon his dying breath
