The Senses of Christmas

The night was filled with ginger and spice
And smells from the kitchen, oh were so nice,
The fragrance of pine and essence of mint
Brought back the memories of a Christmas well spent.

When the ringing of bells sounded in the hall
And instantly flashing back I did recall
The voices of carolers singing “Noel”
And ending with Silent Night, what a story to tell.

The taste of the cookies and the pies mom did bake
Topped off later with a piece of fruit cake,
Then the main dinner came with all of its grandeur
And the season of hmm hmm was easy to endure.

The touch of the stocking made of red felt
Reminded me still of the moment I knelt,
And saying my prayers on a Christmas Eve past,
I asked for a Christmas that would last, ever last.

The sight of the manger brought tears to my eyes,
As I remembered the story of His grand surprise.
The story of a Savior who came to this earth
To provide us all with a chance for new birth.

The taste, the touch, the smell, the sight and the sound
Make Christmas a time of joy all around.
But most important of all is the feeling
Of peace in our hearts, through God’s plan revealing
His son, His son, His only Son.
