Flowers and Bees Quilt

Written by Dee Hampton

I met Carolyn who was a neighbor of a friend.  We picked her up to take her with us to a wedding reception in the Omaha area.  After the reception and on our way home to Lincoln, I shared with her my love for quilting.  She responded, “You need to come to my house. I want to give you something.”  I went to her house and on one of her beds was all kinds of quilting material, several quilt-tops not finished, two quilts (finished), and a box of 1930 hexie flowers her mother and grandmother had started.  The hexie flowers were made from Carolyn’s dresses.  I hand-made all the rest of the flowers and hand quilted using a bee design.  Not long after, Carolyn passed away and had not the opportunity to see the quilt.  I’m so grateful for her gifts and only wish I could have shared the final results with her.
