One Drop of His Blood

The taste of His blood
Welled up in His mouth
When the first blow struck his face.
Yet this first drop was sufficient enough
To redeem the entire human race.

The “cup” now was offered and accepted in full
As the sound of the blow rang true.
Heard across heaven and yes to the throne,
The sound was something quite new.

He felt every blow,
Every stripe on His back,
Each thorn that pierced His brow.
The nails hit their mark, and the sword broke through.
The pain was insufferable now.

He bore the pain,
The guilt and the shame,
And gave payment in full for me
The last drop of blood that fell from His face
Was enough to set you and me free.

One drop of His blood
Did carry more weight
Than ten million sheep sacrificed.
A single drop had more power to save,
Than a diamond of the greatest price.

Each drop of blood
That fell that day,
Covered more than all of our sins.
Many before and many who came after
Are redeemed, eternally cleansed.
