On Grief

Twenty years after and still I grieve,
Will it not pass away?
A thought, a cue, a reminder or two,
And back comes that day.

A time to mourn, a time to dance,
And yet I remember when,
He danced, he sang, his laughter rang
All through the house back then.

A tear still breaks upon my cheek
When fleeting memories go.
His hair, his face and yes a trace
Of his voice still lingers so.

The briefest moment grief still comes
And then it’s gone again.
A sigh, a breath, and then his death
Fades like a summer rain.

Oh yes, the mourning lessens,
As time passes on.
To be born, to die, to laugh and cry,
My grief is almost gone.

I praise God today for a future time
When there will be no sorrow
No pain no tears no more grief,
Just a heavenly tomorrow.
