The Little Children

The beggar child approached Him slowly,
Wondering whether she might see
How this man who spoke so boldly
Could bring about the prophecy.

It had been said, it had been written,
That a king would soon appear
With the power to bring mercy,
Releasing all man-kind from fear.

Now more children were brought before Him,
So she slipped among them too,
But some men there spoke so harshly
Plainly stating, “no, not you!”

But the Lord spoke oh so softly,
“Let the little children come to me,”
Do not hinder, for the Kingdom
That I bring, belongs to these.”

So the child again drew near Him
Fighting back a simple tear,
Then he turned and motioned to her,
Speaking softly, “Please come here.”

Now the tears flowed oh so freely
As He held her to His breast,
He simply said, “I love you, child,
From this day forward you are blessed.”
