\nNo I will simply be here in the barracks
\nThey\u2019ve taken me out of the fight.<\/p>\n
Hey mom, don\u2019t worry about me right now,
\nI am totally out of harms way,
\nI\u2019m coming home in a couple of days
\nAnd everything will be ok.<\/p>\n
Mom, don\u2019t cry, it will be all right
\nI\u2019ve already got my pass.
\nThe plane is packed and my seat secured,
\nI\u2019m coming home at last.\u201d<\/p>\n
Several days later the plane took off
\nAnd sure enough, John was on board,
\nThe flight went smooth, no delays at all,
\nHe was coming home once more.<\/p>\n
We waited inside the lounge that day
\nAs each of the soldiers came in,
\nHe must have been the last one on,
\nYet still no sign of him.<\/p>\n
Then a voice on the speaker called our names
\nAnd we were relieved to hear
\nThat John was already in baggage claim,
\nWaiting for us to pick him up there.<\/p>\n
When we arrived at the baggage claim
\nIt was difficult to find anyone
\nThe place was packed with people
\nEmbracing son after soldiering son.<\/p>\n
A baggage agent finally approached
\nAnd asked who we were looking for
\nWe told him, and he quickly checked his list
\nAnd said he\u2019s down one more floor.<\/p>\n
So down one more floor we went that day
\nAnd sure enough he was there
\nHe came home like he said he would,
\nBut in a casket with no fanfare.<\/p>\n
A second after he had hung up the phone,
\nThe barracks was torn by the blast.
\nThe final words he had managed to say was
\n\u201cI\u2019m coming home at last.\u201d<\/p>\n
To all those who have lost their sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers or friends in war, my heart goes out to you. May God Bless you and comfort you in your time of sorrow and pain.<\/p>\n
