Friends that are close are so hard to find
\nAnd harder still to develop o’er time,
\nBut that’s what it takes if you want to get close
\nTo give and to take and make friends the most.<\/p>\n
No one is perfect, but wouldn’t it be grand
\nIf we could just find maybe one who could stand
\nThe test we give daily to everyone it seems
\nBut no one could pass it even in our dreams.<\/p>\n
Our expectations are suspect at best
\nIf we really think we could pass our own test
\nAnd muster up the courage enough to admit
\nThat we too fall short, when it comes right down to it.<\/p>\n
A true friend is one who is always there
\nWho will overlook trouble and misery we share
\nThat is brought about daily by the old man called pride
\nWho seems to entangle while along for the ride.<\/p>\n
But the Word speaks so clearly about this you well know
\nLay down your pride and humbly stoop low
\nAnd ask for forgiveness if necessary each day
\nAnd shake off the things that get in the way.<\/p>\n
Well we all know this for we’ve heard it enough
\nBut somehow we’re caught and getting loose is so tough
\nThat we finally do throw up our hands and just say,
\n“It was his fault not mine.” He owes me today!”<\/p>\n
But the closest of friends is Jesus our brother
\nHe showed us just how to act with each other
\nTo love is to give and to give of our best
\nEven when we don’t feel like it, is the real test.<\/p>\n
So how can you find a true friend you can trust
\nBy being one so thoroughly yourself is a must.
\nAnd the more that you go just one extra mile,
\nIt will start to happen, in such a short while.<\/p>\n
The very next time you need a close friend
\nBe one first as it happens again.
\nThe more friends you make, the happier you’ll be
\nThe proofs in the making, not waiting you see.<\/p>\n
